Gooseberry Island
by
Steven Manchester

David McClain is about to deploy for a one year tour of duty to Afghanistan when he meets Lindsey Wood. Even though they are strangers, they feel a deep connection and decide to cultivate a long distance relationship. However, when David returns home, there is little resemblance to the man Lindsey fell in love with in her letters. David is suffering from the effects of a horrendous war; effects that have the ability to destroy not only his peace but also his love for Lindsey. Sensitively wrought and deeply moving, Gooseberry Island is a poignant story of human adversity being overcome through perseverance and the power of love. Steven Manchester once again demonstrates his mastery for taking a sensitive subject and transforming it with great acumen and humanity into a story that touches the very center of one’s soul. Addressing the debilitating condition of PTSD, this tale raises the reader’s awareness of the crippling effects this horrific affliction has, not only on the sufferer, but also on the people around them. With finely drawn characters and a solid plot that moves seamlessly, it touches on depression, heartbreak, and guilt, while offering the healing balm of recovery and love. It is a story of triumph against a formidable obstacle afflicting numerous people, that is not only uplifting but also heartwarming.

Down and Out in Beverly Heels
by
Kathryn Leigh Scott

Mystery, comedy & romance in a creative story line Down and Out in Beverly Heels is an entertaining read with a creative story line. Kathryn Leigh Scott demonstrates her talent for writing with this enjoyable story that combines mystery, comedy and a light touch of romance. Meg Barnes is an aging actress that finds herself homeless and down on her luck due to her missing second husband, who conned her and many of her friends out of millions of dollars. Meg has to contend with the quirky ways of Hollywood and its penchant for younger actresses, the unpleasantness of having to audition for bit parts after having led a successful career in television, colleagues who believe she knows something about the money they were conned out of, and the task of trying to improve her living situation while solving a mystery. This book will hold your attention as you follow the trials and tribulations of Meg’s life. Not only is it full of twists and turns that will have you turning the pages, but it also gives the reader insight into the foibles of Hollywood life. Kathryn Leigh Scott lends the story authenticity with her inside knowledge of the industry. Known for her success as a daytime television actress and a publisher, Kathryn adds talented and successful writer to her impressive resume’. Down and Out in Beverly Heels is a novel with much more depth and intrigue than the description led me to believe. I found it to be a well-crafted and delightful read that kept me interested from the beginning to the end. I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.

Rockin' Chair
by
Steven Manchester

Sensitively wrought & deeply moving story of love and forgiveness The Rockin’ Chair is a well-written, powerful portrayal of a family in crisis. Steven Manchester demonstrates his exceptional talent with words as he creates this emotionally rich tale that touches the heart. He takes the sensitive subjects of illness and family dysfunction and handles them with finesse and great insight. John ‘Grandpa John’ McCarthy has been taking care of his wife Alice, who has advanced Alzheimer’s Disease. When his wife’s disease worsens, he calls the family home to right the wrongs of their lives. Grandpa John takes responsibility for the hurt and damages he’s caused his family, and approaches each member with care and love as he helps them come to terms with their own demons. This is a story that examines the interactions of a family and the love that is hidden deep inside each one of its members. As it takes a long, hard look at the problems the family faces, it offers the hope and forgiveness that is necessary for healing. Having experienced the dreaded disease of Alzheimer’s first hand from the viewpoint of a child, Steven’s novel helped me realize that the other members of a family have totally different perspectives. Alice’s viewpoint of the disease and the feelings it brought forth, was one aspect that I never considered. Steven’s brilliant depiction was extremely enlightening and poignant. Even though this book touches on adversity, misunderstanding, and tragedy, its focus is on hope, forgiveness, memories and love. It’s sensitively wrought, deeply moving, and contains well-drawn characters. This is a book that grabbed my attention from the first page and had me reading well into the night. I highly recommend that everyone reads this story and follows the career of this incredibly talented author. I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for my honest review. Harlequin Blaze #750: Midnight Special: Coming on Strong
by
Tawny Weber
J Shay
, May 14, 2013
Midnight Special is the first book that I’ve had the pleasure of reading by Tawny Weber. Her style of writing quickly drew me into the story. Tawny does an excellent job of crafting a scintillating tale of two career-minded people who get caught by the scorching chemistry that sizzles between them. Marni, a reporter who is on the trail of a story that she’s sure will jettison her career to the top, finds herself falling for the handsome FBI agent who has all the information she needs for her story. Hunter, the FBI agent who doesn’t have time for commitments as he pushes himself to the top of his field, finds himself wildly attracted to Marni, the woman who he found sharing his berth on a film noir themed train. The fire ignites as they find themselves sharing a cabin that is too small to contain the inferno that blazes between them. The characters are engaging and likeable, and the story line flows smoothly. This book has it all; emotional tension, hot chemistry, sizzling heat, witty dialogue, steamy sex, and smoldering romance. It is an enjoyable, entertaining read that will have you turning the pages as fast as you can. Midnight Special grabbed my attention from page one and kept me enthralled until the last page. I will be looking to read more from this talented author. I highly recommend this must read to all lovers of romance. I received a copy of this book from Goddess Fish Tours in exchange for my honest review. Janna Shay Author of Fair Play
