Five Book Friday: In Memoriam
(0 comment)
Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. I highly recommend digging into the recommendations — we would never lead you astray — but today...

Edible Front Yard The Mow Less Grow More Plan for a Beautiful Bountiful Garden

I've been turning "the lawn" into a garden nearly all of my life. Radical, me.. And enjoying the fruits & vegetables of my labors while wasting almost no gas or time on mowing. The current yarden is a mixed bag of pockets of prairie & edibles. What little grass there is gets mowed twice a year - down to the dirt instead of burning in the spring & at a short distance above the dirt in the fall after everything is dormant. We've needed a book like this 'forever'. If I wanted my yarden to look like it was carpeted, I'd put in a rug. Talk about BORING! The photos in this book are excellent; the copy is easy to read; and I hope it goes thru many printings!

I don't wax wildly enthusiastic unless something is Really Good - this book is a gem! And a steal at its price. Thank you again BBG! I'm not a snob gardener - my plants need to be willing to rub leaves with many kinds. The BBG guides enable my plants & me to live comfortably & humbly together, enjoying each other in an ad lib manner. How sweet is that! (Very)
