Last Man

Amazing! A complex plot that is well organized and fluid. The action starts on the first page and continues throughout the book. One of the few books on Afghanistan and related to Pakistan that really explores the complex relationship of the sectarian and the pious coordinating with the Washington power of the alphabet agencies. Although the reason for Rickman ultimate reasoning for what he did is not fully explained, there was not a need - many times what people do is just because.

This stunningly original and complex thriller features Skinner, a hired killer whose job is to protect his "asset." The plot comes right out of today's headlines with data mining, hacking, and terrorists coming into play. The story lingers in your mind long after you have read the last page. Highly recommended.

Classic Ivan Doig and nothing less than superb! What Ivan provides is not just another plot with characters but a historical account with characters most would want to shoulder to in a visit to that past. Since Doig is a history prof., I suspect the man is expert at taking the reader into another time and place with historical accuracy. Yea Ivan!

If you are going to read this book (and I recommend that you do) take some time away from life. Find a quiet place, and devote your mind to the story. It will consume you, amaze you and remind you that there are authors out there who use common words to create uncommon magic.
