Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. Practical Permaculture for Home Landscapes Your Community & the Entire Earth

Here's the deal folks. This book is my favorite permaculture book after Mollison's. When I first thumbed through it I was like "WOW"! Why? It is simply beautiful. The illustrations are knock out gorgeous. Then there's more. Well grounded in permaculture (the principles, the values, design-centric). Clear. Concise. Straight-forward. Real world centric. I doubted I needed another permaculture book. But, I took the plunge as the library wait list was months long. It's the best new or newer permaculture book!

Permaculture A Designers Manual
by

Here's the deal. This book isn't for everyone. You will likely find bits to quibble about. I certainly did. But, with so many newer books on permaculture that refer back to this epic tome--why not go to the horse's mouth? If you are unsure about this book, maybe try Introduction to Permaculture on for size first--then dive into this one. The Designer's Manual has so much to chew on and should be digested over time. I found it to be worthwhile study. Study, research, apply, do, experiment, study, get out there and do it...

Introduction to Permaculture 2nd Edition

Introduction to Permaculture is a great foundation for permaculture study. It's not a substitute for The Designer's Manual--it's an introduction. While Mollison's epic tome The Permaculture Designer's Manual may seem less digestible to some, this book is a quick focused read. If you are not sure if Mollison's style is for you--this book is a good way to find out if it works for you. All of the concepts are presented clearly with lots of illustrations. It's a book to read and reference for years to come.
