Five Book Friday: In Memoriam
(0 comment)

New York Drawings
by
Adrian Tomine

Adrian Tomine is a fantastic artist and an even better storyteller. His drawings convey so much in a single image, and it's really interesting to see his covers for the New Yorker next to a quick sketch he drew on the subway. The only thing I would really want to see added to this book are more comic strips (in the vein of Optic Nerve).

Crimes in Southern Indiana

Crimes in Southern Indiana is full of raw, hot energy, but it often feels as if the stories are propelled by little more than violence for its own sake. As a native of Southern Indiana, I find these stories hard to relate to or place in the (mostly) peaceful area where I grew up, but each story is compelling enough in its own right to keep me speeding through the book.

The film El Topo is fantastic and endlessly cryptic. I feel like it may be impossible to understand without the context of the book.
