This an extraordinary book, packed with information in remarkably few words. It has made me a better gardener and a much more appreciative being. It helped a lot that I understood basic biology, even from many years ago. If you love science, you will love this small book and the enormous world it opens. Further, on COURSERA, a free online seminar service, the author himself teaches this book, a wonderful bonus.

Please note that there is a newer edition of this work. I very much like the book's geographically limited information-- identification is easier for the obvious reason. Ms. Bradley is highly respected by local naturalists, a testament to her high standards. I recommend it.
