I thought I knew what would happen, but this book surprised me. It had an unexpected and powerful emotional impact on me, and because of this, I believe it is the best. book I read this year. Check it out

Queen of Fashion What Marie Antoinette Wore to the Revolution

A great, gossipy biography of a subject who has been addressed over and over again. I couldn't help drawing parallels to Princess Di. Antoinette was a powerless person who made herself an icon but didn't see the shifts in popular opinion, or perhaps didn't care. Presents an interesting angle.

What starts out as a romp with a 14 yr old girl with a bad heart and an eccentric family ends as an attempted totalitarian take-over that happens as quickly and unexpectedly as an airplane stuck in a tower. It starts out charming you and ends haunting you.
