Beta Testing the Apocalypse

Imagine JG Ballard working with a top-notch comics artist and you've got an inkling of what sort of wonders this book promises readers. Even better, it delivers. It's a four color slice of future shock that, despite the circumstances the characters often find themselves in, is imbued with real hope for the future.

Treasury of XXth Century Murder The Lives of Sacco & Vanzetti
by
Rick Geary
bill baker
, August 04, 2012
This award-winning entry in Rick Geary's series of original graphic novels builds on the many strengths of its predecessors even as it stakes out new territory in the medium and the nonfiction genres. Based on extensive research, Geary's work illuminates the many troubling aspects of this infamous case even as it lays bare the rampant judicial abuses and personal prejudices that contributed to one of the most notable miscarriages of justice these United States has seen. Enlightening, entertaining and even a bit enraging, this volume proves the inherent power of the comics medium while providing proof positive that Geary is one of the best storytellers of his generation.

Most of a decade in the making, Craig Thompson's Habibi proves worth the wait. An incredible love story wrapped within a woman's journey from various kinds of entrapment and servitude, presented in beautiful, lush images. Simply stunning, and worthy of all the notice it's garnered...and more.

One of the best of that burgeoning new breed of OGB [or original graphic biography, the kissin' cousin of the OGN, or original graphic novel], and simply one of the best nonfiction books of the year, this biography of Feynman presents a fully rendered portrait of one of the most important American thinkers of the past century. Simply brilliant work, and something that offers quite a bit to a wide range of readership.
