Five Book Friday: In Memoriam
(0 comment)
Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. I highly recommend digging into the recommendations — we would never lead you astray — but today...

GRR, yet again Robert Jordan does it. now, this is short, get the book, it isn't the type to allow you to put it down easily, from chapter to chapter its an almost nail biting experience. The Dragon has been Reborn and he must set out of his quest to rid the world of the Dark One. Can he doe this though without losing his mind to the dark ones taint? It is the best in the series up to now(for which I have read) worth any amount just to have the pleasure of reading it.[kw]Wheel of Time[/kw]

Gah, brilliant sequel to the Eye of the World, takes off right where book one ended, Rand faces some dificult decisions with his life and his relationships with his friends. The story explores more of the history of the world of the wheel but while moving at a similar pace to that of the latter half of book 1. One of the few direct sequels that is on par (and possibly surpasses) the original. A definate read for any fantasy fan. BUT READ BOOK ONE FIRST[kw]Wheel of Time[/kw]

Eye of the World Wheel of Time 01

Though the book is a breakthrough in storytelling (being one of only a few to duplicate the level of fandom like Tolkein), the Eye of the world starts out as a slow crawl. This is understadably needed, plotlines, places and the like have to be set up, but after reaching a place called Shadar Lolgoth, the story takes off, a definate choice if you want months of your life taken up by reading the first book and itching to get to the second.
