Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Heroes with a Southern Gothic edge.

If New Orleans has earned its "Sin City" nickname for its debauchery, then its nearby sister Devil's Cape has earned its "Pirate Town" moniker for the violence and blatant corruption that have marred the city since its founding. A city where corruption and heroism walk hand-in-hand, and justice and mercy are bought and paid-for in blood, Devil's Cape is a city like no other.

Devil's Cape is a novel like no other. It blends the gritty crime novel with a heavy dose of the supernatural and weaves a tale of superhuman heroes and villains. Briskly written and highly readable, Devil's Cape will appeal to a wide audience.

Review:

"The characters are layered and intriguing, the setting is well defined, the supernatural and the paranormal powers and their uses are imaginative, and the language is of that 'invisible' style, which communicates without calling attention to itself." HorrorReader.com

Review:

"The plot is not particularly original, and many of the characters are one-dimensional, but the use of the city almost as a character helps to make the book more interesting." School Library Journal

Review:

"Devil's Cape successfully melds the superhero genre with the real world in a manner which gives it its own identity, and perhaps longevity." SFSite.com

I loved this book. What a wonderful blending of mythology and exciting new superheroes. I was charmed by the beginning because it hit a familiar note with the background of mythology, but when the modern story took off I was blown away. The characters are so real and engaging and the story is exciting up to the final page. What a great read!

I am a 7th grade language arts teacher, so I've read a lot of Y/A Lit. This is the best book I've read in five years. This is book is "Sopranos" "Super Friends" and "Steven King" all rolled into one well-crafted tale. I would love to use it as a class novel, but it might be a touch too violent for 7th graders-- or at least for their parents :)
