Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Based on the award-winning novel by Neil Gaiman!

From the director of The Nightmare Before Christmas comes a visually stunning stop-motion animated feature — the first to be originally filmed in 3-D! (Includes 4 pairs of 3-D Glasses)

Coraline Jones is bored in her new home until she finds a secret door that leads her into a world that's just like her own...but better! But when this fantastical adventure turns dangerous and her 'other' Mother tries to keep her forever, Coraline must count on her resourcefulness and bravery to get home.

Critics are hailing Coraline as "A remarkable feat of imagination" (Kenneth Turan, Los Angeles Times).

Review:

"This thrilling stop-motion animated adventure is a high point in Selick's career of creating handcrafted wonderlands of beauty blended with deep, disconcerting creepiness." Entertainment Weekly

Review:

"A classic fairy tale with a contemporary sensibility and a spooky horror under the candy-house fantasy." Seattle Post-Intelligencer

Review:

"[N]othing short of magical." The Onion AV Club

Review:

"A remarkable feat of imagination, a magical tale with a genuinely sinister edge." The Los Angeles Times

Review:

"Coraline lingers in an atmosphere that is creepy, wonderfully strange and full of feeling." The New York Times

Review:

"For its sheer visual gusto alone, Coraline is a wonder." The Portland Oregonian

Well worth all the praise - highly recommended. This film exceeded my expectations - animation was wonderful, seamless (pun intended). My spouse, who is not a fan of animation, was engrossed the entire film. That said, the day after, all I'm left with is images -- no moral, storyline, or thought provoked. So, like Avatar, great eye candy, with a plot & characters that engage, but ... the morning after, not much to say, other than I'd recommend the experience to others. By the way, we didn't view thru 3D glasses -- we'd been there & done that decades ago, and the paper frames & lens look the same after all these years. Having seen Avatar on IMAX in 3D, with wraparound 'shades' - the newer 3D technology can be impressive. However, the 2D version is plenty impressive on its own -- 3D might add another dimension, but not another star ;-)
