The fact that it was written by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett should speak for itself, really. However, if you need more enticement than that, Good Omens is a comedy of errors centered on an attempt to thwart Armageddon. The unlikely perpetrators are an angel and a demon who have, over the years of passing useful bits of information back and forth (think Cold War spies), become rather fond of our little planet. When you combine this with the "nice and accurate prophecies" of a 17th-century witch, the bungling misadventures of the last two witch hunters on earth, the four Harley-riding "horsemen" of the apocalypse and their less famous tag-alongs, and an 11-year-old antichrist (or maybe not the antichrist...) it all makes for a bizarre and hilarious read that has earned Good Omens the top place on the highly prestigious list of Seth's favorite books from 2006.

Publisher Comments:

We hear the world will end on a Saturday. Next Saturday, in fact. Just before dinner.

Unfortunately, Sister Mary Loquacious of the Chattering Order has misplaced the Antichrist. The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse ride motorcycles. And the representatives from Heaven and Hell have decided they actually like the human race...

This book had me laughing all the way through. You have to love it when the Apocalypse isn't going according to plan. Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett make for a perfect team, and their combined wit is razor sharp.

I laughed out loud through the first third of the book. After that either I or the book settled down to a mellower humor. I bought the book because--Gaiman _and_ Pratchett?! I figured it had to be good--and it was. In addition to brilliant writing, another fully-"drawn" world and characters, and hilarity, the book also has, ultimately, a good-hearted center that holds it all together.
