About the Author

Barbara Robinson was born in Portsmouth, Ohio, and now makes her home in Berwyn, Pennsylvania. A graduate of Allegheny College, Ms. Robinson also received an honorary doctorate of letters from Allegheny.

Ms. Robinson has written several books for children, including My Brother Louis Measures Worms, The Best School Year Everand the critically acclaimed and enormously popular The Best Christmas Pageant Ever

The Best Christmas Pageant Everis now a classic TV movie, and the play The Best Christmas Pageant Ever is produced annually in theaters, schools, and churches all over the country.

Ms. Robinson has two daughters, Carolyn and Marjorie, and three grandchildren, Tomas, Marcos, and Lucas.

I discovered this book when I was in elementary school, but I make a point to read it each year. It's a hillarious story about a group of kids who have never heard the Christmas story decide they want to be IN a Christmas pageant. Hillarity ensues as this large family learns about why we celebrate Christmas and about giving to others. The whole Christmas program is turned upside down the year it's taken over by the Herdmans. The mother who was going to offer her baby to play the baby Jesus revokes the offer, and that's just the start of problems. There's the firemen being called for a 'fire' after one of the Herdmans smokes in the bathroom of the church, and so much more! A fast page page turner that will get even the most reluctant reader -- child or adult -- to become a bookworm for an afternoon!

I really like this book, it is humerous and has a great plot. The characters go through many trails to learn what the true christmas story really is.
