Dave: IMG Jim Lynch Makes Landscape Art... Out of Text

jimlynchIf Carl Hiaasen set one of his novels on a residential stretch of boundary line between British Columbia and Washington, or if Richard Russo's characters had relatives in the Pacific Northwest, the result might be something like Jim Lynch's Border Songs. Continue »

Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

The first in a series of novels, this heartwarming book introduces readers to a small, charming North Carolina town and its equally charming denizens. Filled with the mysteries and miracles of everyday life and rich, provincial humor, At Home in Mitford will have readers clamoring for more. Followed by a sequel, A Light in the Window.

I have read this series a few times and find all the books enjoyable, though sometimes a bit ponderous. I am not Christian, but I often read Christian fiction because I like "gentle" fiction. If you are like me, I would read Miss Read (start with Village School or Thrush Green) first, then go to Jan Karon, if you don't mind the occasional bit of preachiness.

A humorous detailed look at the life of a minister in a small southern town. See into the personal life and ministry of a man that must deal with God and people on a daily 24/7 basis. You will meet many colorful and varied characters, and come to love each one and loathe a few troublemakers. Although this series deals with many weighty topics, it is bathed in a delightful uplifting humor that is rarely found in Christian fiction. A very few slang terms are used in this series, and maybe one or two inappropriate words for true "Christian" fiction, but it is easily dealt with. I have the entire set and could hardly wait as each book came on the market. Sadly the Mitford series is complete, but hey, now you can get them as a set or even used. (Look on the bright side) I would say this is currently my favorite series. I drank in each book and reread them too. If you start with At Home in Mitford you will be hooked.
