Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Lights. Camera. Slawter!

Grubbs Grady and his half-brother Bill-E are thrilled to join their uncle Dervish as onset consultants for the newest movie by cult horror producer David A Haym. Shot in a deserted town renamed Slawter, the demon-themed movie is to be Haym's masterpiece. But as strange incidents disrupt the set, Grubbs begins to wonder whether more than filming is afoot.

Review:

"[F]ull of page-turning adventure. Right from the start you are hooked....[A] powerfully well-written novel. The language and characterization will envelop the reader." Children's Literature

Review:

"Shan gives masters like Poe and King a run for their money with unexpected plot twists and vile descriptions that surpass the gross and rival the grisly....Best of all, Grubbs plays center stage yet again." VOYA

Review:

"A fleeting read with plenty of bloody action (and mere hints of anything else), this sequel to Lord Loss introduces promising hints of Grubbs's untapped magical potential." Horn Book

Review:

"Shan is not just a mindless purveyor of grisly thrills. Like all good fantasists, he is interested in showing the reactions of ordinary people to extraordinary events....Shan's portrayal of his troubled hero is convincing and affecting." The Telegraph (U.K.)

Synopsis:

From the bestselling author of Cirque Du Freak comes this story of a new cult horror film being shot in a deserted town renamed Slawter. As strange incidents disrupt the set, the crew begins to wonder whether more than a filming is afoot.

This is a really good book. It is the sequel to Darren Shan's Lord Loss(The first book in the demonata series). Dervish takes Grubbs and Bill-E on a movie set to shoot a horror movie which includes demons. When accidents start to happen on the set, Grubbs thinks that real demons are doing it. Nobody believes him. Will Grubb finally convince everyone that he is right or will the demons have a really nice feast?

Slawter picks up the story of Grubbs Grady, the main character from book one. Now that Dervish is back from Lord Loss' world, Grubbs thinks his life is back to normal. Wrong. Davida Haymes, VERY popular horror movie director, has Dervish, Grubbs, and Bill-E on the set of her new film, Slawter, with Dervish giving helpful demon pointers. But when the demons turn out to be real, Grubbs has to call on some major courage to save the cast and crew from none other than Lord Loss himself.
Outstanding book, as usual. Darren Shan has a gift for making a reader go 'Ick.' All of his characters are maniacal, so you never know who the real bad guy is until its sprung on you at the end. Like his Cirque Du Freak novels, the Demonata is an enjoyable piece of stereotypical fantasy everyone can enjoy.
