Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

A story of betrayal, grief and love set in biblical times, which combines outstandingly rich storytelling and an original insight into women's place in society in a little-documented period of early history.

Synopsis:

Her name is Dinah. In the Bible her fate is merely hinted at in a brief and violent detour within the verses of the Book of Genesis that deal with Jacob and his dozen sons. Told in Dinah's voice, "The Red Tent" reveals the traditions of ancient womanhood and family honour.

This is an amazing story of the life of Dinah. Her father is Jacob, whose story, along with those of his brother, Esau, and father, Isaac, is told in the Old Testament of the Bible. She is only briefly mentioned there, but as Dinah tells her life's story, I experienced everything as though I were there with her. This is a very empowering, life-affirming book for women of all ages, and for men an oportunity to see life through a woman's eyes. I intend to share this book with both my daughter and my mother; we'll see if I can convince my husband to read it. ;)
