Bella Poldark (Poldark) Cover

Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

The stories of the Poldark family—Ross, the strong, independent squire and his beautiful, outspoken wife Demelza; their son Jeremy, killed at the battle of Waterloo; their talented, headstrong daughter Bella; and their long-standing feud with humorless landowner Sir George Warleggan—have sold millions of copies, and in the 1970s were made into the most widely watched TV series of the decade. Now, the twelfth and final novel brings the family story to a close—with Bella taking center stage, moving between her home at Nampara on the rugged Cornish coast and the wildly exciting world of the theater in London and Europe at the beginning of the 19th century.

Synopsis:

Generations of readers have fallen in love with the 18th-century Cornwall of Winston Graham. His stories of the Poldark family--Ross Poldark, the strong, independent squire of Nampara and his beautiful, outspoken wife Demelza; their children Jeremy, Clowance, Isabella-Rose, and Harry; and their long-standing feud with their neighbor George Warleggan--have sold in the millions. In the 1970s, the Poldark stories were brought to Public Television in one of the most widely watched series of the decade. Now the story of the Poldarks draws to a close in the final installment of this much-admired historical saga.

Synopsis:

The twelfth and final novel brings the family story to a close - with Bella taking centre-stage, moving between her home at Nampara on the rugged Cornish coast and the wildly exciting world of the theatre in London and Europe at the beginning of the 19th century.

I'm sorry but to my infinite disappointment I thought this was a stinker. I have loved the books all my life and was so delighted when the next generation of them sprang up. They have given me so much pleasure over the years. Sadly the beloved author finally did what he had so admirably avoided doing all this time, he "jumped the shark" with the daft serial killer plot and rushed Bella's career and Clowance's love life to a hurried and contrived happy ending. Valentine's story was implausible too. As far as I am concerned the series ended with the tragic and powerful Twisted Sword which has some of the most beautiful prose ever written.
