Living Peace: A Spirituality of Contemplation and Action

by John Dear

Living Peace: A Spirituality of Contemplation and Action Cover

Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

For John Dear, a Jesuit priest and a respected leader of the ecumenical peace movement, the spiritual life is a combination of contemplation and action, of maintaining inner peace and projecting that peace onto the greater world. It is the spirituality exemplified by the lives of Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Jr., Mother Teresa, the Dalai Lama, and others throughout history who remained true to the highest ideals while addressing the most difficult problems and conflicts of the real world.<P>As a tireless advocate for social justice and human rights, Dear has followed that path in his own life, and in "Living Peace", he describes his journey. Breaking down the life of peace into three parts — an inner journey, a public journey, and the journey of all humanity — he shares the spiritual practices that have sustained him and teaches readers how to integrate them in their own lives.

Living peace as the title says it all. It is uniek to write from the inner source of existence. It is also wonderful to share it with others. With living peace we can exist in harmony and peaceful relationship with fellow beings and environment. Every creacture needs to live in peace. We need much more of his type of person.Very inspiring and I have sworn to belong to the inspiring. I can expect somebody to be and walk the road he and others like him did and are doing. I decide to join that road. His sharing through writing have reached me. That is a reward to his life and work. You are also invited to read and do something with it. Not just read and enjoy but work and share. He followed the examples of others. He is inspiring.
