Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Introduction to Sociology, Sixth Edition, organizes the core concepts of modern sociology around the unifying theme of globalization. Taking a comparative approach, the authors examine American society in a global and historical context, underscoring the wide diversity of social forms and social change. The authors emphasize the connections between American and world societies and the integral role of individuals in shaping both local and global society.

Retaining the hallmark clarity of previous editions, the Sixth Edition has been updated to reflect the most recent sociological research and data. This edition also offers expanded in-text pedagogy and exceptional print and multimedia resources for students and instructors.

Book News Annotation:

This introductory textbook uses vivid examples taken from research studies, news stories, and other sources to illustrate the fundamental concepts of sociology. Each chapter has been written as an autonomous unit, to allow for course customization. Twenty boxed sections profiling the work of public sociologists have been added for the sixth edition. Synopsis:

The only textbook that helps students make micro-macro connections, Introduction to Sociologyhelps students uncover the surprising links between everyday life and global change. The Seventh Edition does not simply compare the United States to other countries, but shows students how global processes play out in their lives. Drawing on research from both macro and micro sociology, the author team shows how sociologists bring the two together to give a comprehensive picture of modern society.
