Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

The Edgar-nominated, Anthony Award-winning novel that started the brilliant career of Harlan Coben. Introducing the quick-witted Myron Bolitar, sports agent and reluctant private eye, and his psychotic sidekick, Win, this furiously paced debut storms the gates of professional football, where a high-priced rookie with a dubious past is being squeezed by sleazy management and murder is the only deal breaker. Endlessly entertaining with inexhaustible twists, this novel is the classic that put Coben on the map.

Hardball negotiating comes easy to sports agent Myron Bolitar. But when the Titans use a young woman's disappearance against his client Christian Steele, Myron strikes back. Calling the number of his own ace in the hole — a Wasp named Win who happens to be a walking leathal weapon — Myron crashes into a world where high prices athletes and sleazy players come together. Suddenly, Myon and Win have a nude photo, a phone-sex line, and a handful of clues that all add up to one thing: young, beautiful Kathy Culver may not be dead at all, but a killer is most definitely in the game.

Review:

"A mystery thriller with all the right stuff, intrigue, suspense, romance and humor...Coben keeps you in suspense from beginning to end."

-The Newark Tribune

Review:

"A mystery thriller with all the right stuff, intrigue, suspense, romance and humor...Coben keeps you in suspense from beginning to end."—The Newark Tribune

"Like fellow wise-cracking P.I.'s Spenser and Elvis Cole, Myron Bolitar is great fun in the best hard-boiled tradition."—Houston Chronicle

Synopsis:

From the "New York Times" bestselling author of "Promise Me" comes the first novel featuring Myron Bolitar--a haunting tale of betrayal and family secrets that explodes into a riveting powerhouse of suspense. Reissue.

Synopsis:

Sports agent Myron Bolitar is poised on the edge of the big time. So is Christian Steele, a rookie quarterback and Myron's prized client. But when Christian gets a phone call from a former girlfriend, a woman who everyone, including the police, believes is dead, the deal starts to go sour. Trying to unravel the truth about a family's tragedy, a woman's secret, and a man's lies, Myron is up against the dark side of his business—where image and talent make you rich, but the truth can get you killed.

In novels that crackle with wit and suspense, Edgar Award winner Harlan Coben has created one of the most fascinating and complex heroes in suspense fiction—Myron Bolitar—a hotheaded, tenderhearted sports agent who grows more and more engaging and unpredictable with each page-turning appearance.

This is the first book in the Myron Bolitar series. Even if you don't like sports, you will still love this series. I have absolutely no interest in sports, but the series doesn't revolve around that. The series revolves around mysteries with ordinary people. Deaths, murders, kidnappings, etc. It's a very exciting series that I highly recommend.
