Synopses & ReviewsBook News Annotation:A collection of nine papers measuring and explaining productivity
among industrial and service sectors of the European, East European,
Japanese, and US markets. The contributors use statistical
comparisons of growth rates and relative levels, and productivity
case studies to outline the productivity differences at the macro,
meso, and micro levels, comparing capital intensity and growth,
training and management, product quality, globalization and
competition. The discussions highlight research in the "catch-up and
convergence process," the impact of technology diffusion, and
transfer pricing and foreign ownership. Most of these papers were
originally presented at a Science Center conference in Berlin,
November 1993.
