Synopses & ReviewsPublisher Comments:The market-leading text for the art history survey course, GARDNER'S ART THROUGH THE AGES has served as a comprehensive and thoughtfully crafted guide to the defining phases of the world's artistic tradition. With this book in hand, thousands of students have watched the story of art unfold in its full historical, social, religious, economic, and cultural context, and thus deepened their understanding of art, architecture, painting, and sculpture. By virtue of its comprehensive coverage, strong emphasis on context, and rich, accurate art reproductions, GARDNER'S ART THROUGH THE AGES has earned and sustained a reputation of excellence and authority. So much so, that in 2001, the Text and Academic Authors Association awarded both the McGuffey and the "Texty" Book Prizes to the Eleventh Edition of the text. It is the first art history book to win either award and the only title ever to win both prizes in one year. The Twelfth Edition maintains and exceeds the richness of the Gardner legacy with updated research and scholarship and an even more beautiful art program featuring more color images than any other art history book available. The Twelfth Edition features such enhancements as more color photographs, a stunning new design, and the most current research and scholarship. What's more, the expanded ancillary package that accompanies GARDNER'S ART THROUGH THE AGES, features a wealth of tools to enhance your students' experience in the course. With each new copy of the book, students receive a copy of the ArtStudy 2.0 CD-ROM--an interactive electronic study aid that fully integrates with the Twelfth Edition and includes hundreds of high-quality digital images, plus maps, quizzes, and more. Review:"The writing is snappy and engaging, the content is excellent with substantial contextual information including patronage and reception, and the "boxed information" is useful and not just flashy graphics to make the book seem interesting and trendy." Review:"The superior quality of its photos and illustrations is one of the principal reasons that the Department of Art History has consistently used Art through the Ages." Review:"Three strengths of Gardner's are: the choice of imagery discussed; the quality and size of the images, and the clarity; and detail of the discussion which includes a strong balance between style and history." Synopsis:As fascinating as a real visit to the world's famous museums and architectural sites, GARDNER'S ART THROUGH THE AGES: A GLOBAL HISTORY gives you a comprehensive, beautifully illustrated tour of the world's great artistic traditions—plus all the study tools you need to excel in your art history course! Easy to read and understand, this 13th Edition of the most widely read history of art book in the English language is the only textbook that includes a unique "scale" feature (accompanying the book's photographs of paintings and other artworks) that will help you better visualize the actual size of the artworks shown in the book. You'll also find materials that will help you master the key topics quickly and help you study for your exams—for example, "The Big Picture" overviews at the end of every chapter, a special global timeline, and ArtStudy Online (a free interactive study guide that includes flash cards of images and quizzes). Synopsis:Featuring unique NEW study tools for students and dynamic NEW lecture resources for instructors, the 13th Edition of GARDNER'S ART THROUGH THE AGES: A GLOBAL HISTORY takes this brilliant bestseller to new heights in addressing the challenges of today's classroom. The most widely read history of art in the English language for more than 80 years, GARDNER has built its stellar reputation on the inclusion of the most significant images and monuments, discussions of these images in their full historical and cultural context, reproductions of unsurpassed quality, scholarship that is up-to-date and deep, and more help for students and instructors than any other survey text. The 13th Edition adds to this heritage with new images and new full-color reconstructions. Students will also benefit from the clarity that only a book written by a single author can provide, as well as from "The Big Picture" overviews at the end of every chapter, and ArtStudy Online (a free interactive study guide that includes image flashcards and quizzes to help students master the material quickly). Dynamic lecture tools—including a digital library with a full "zoom" and side-by-side comparison capability and the exciting Google Earth technology—will save instructors time in preparing for class and personalizing their lectures.
