About the Author
J.K. Rowling was a struggling single mother when she wrote the beginnings of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone on scraps of paper at a local cafe. But her efforts were soon rewarded with an award from the Scottish Arts Council enabling her to finish the novel. She has since won numerous awards including the ABBY Award (American Booksellers Award) in 1999.

These books are the most poorly written things I have ever read and should only be used as toilet paper. The writing level is that of a third grader, and the plot is incredibly unoriginal. I would not recommend this series to anybody with half a brain and an appreciation for GOOD literature.

I had the bad experience that I really didn't like the two movies I saw, which put me off reading the books for a long time. But I have to say the books are so much better, because you get so much more depth to the characters. You feel closer to them because a book is intimate, not just another huge special effects blockbuster, hollywood style. The books have soul! And this is where it all started. No one should miss out on this!

I first read this book when I was about 15. I loved it. That is where it all started. I couldn't stop! I ready the next 2 and eagerly awaited the 4th.
I don't understand when people have only seen the movies. The books are so much better than the movies (which I also enjoy).They need to be read. Read it!
