Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

The blanket Joseph's grandfather made him is transformed into many things as the years go by: a jacket, a vest, a tie, a handkerchief--and finally a button. Gilman's modern adaptation and lively illustrations turn this favorite Jewish tale into a contemporary classic.

Synopsis:

A blanket that Joseph's grandfather made him is gradually transformed into many things, from a jacket to a button to the subject of a tender story.

One of my favorite children's books. This is from an old tale about a coat that becomes a vest and, eventually, a button, and finally, a story! Truly a wonderful lesson in frugality.

The illustrations are great. As we watch Joseph's family grow and change, we also see the mouse family below the floor. They too are making something from nothing.

A Jewish-themed book. Even the mice have Hebrew lessons!
