The Glaucomas: Concepts and Fundamentals

Synopses & Reviews

Book News Annotation:

Incorporating new understandings and techniques that have emerged over the past quarter century, Eid (ophthalmology, Tanta U., Egypt) and Spaeth (Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia) consider patients with glaucoma in ways that recognize valid distinctions now known to exist between the sometimes disparate forms. They also propose ways of looking at patients that provide therapeutic guidelines that are more likely to work for the particular patient at hand. They argue that the goal is not the control of intraocular pressure, preservation of the visual field, nor the health of the optic nerve, but the overall welfare of the patient.
