The first formal description of Alzheimer's as a distinct neuropathology began a century of research progress that has intensified in the last 20 years with a rich array of new theories, treatments, risk factors, and some possible causes. However, little attempt has been made to integrate the different ideas or to establish a coherent link among the distinct theories. The intent of this volume is to establish an open forum for presenting new ideas and free dialogue on radically different perspectives, based on the most current key findings. This volume is designed to provide a comprehensive and critical evaluation of this body of theory around three categories: theories related to function changes; structural changes; and energetics. Important new links are established between theories and the data on which distinct theories of Alzheimer's evolved.
