Jesse Bullington: IMG Abash'd the Devil Stood

I don't believe in evil. It's a word I use, certainly, because words are shortcuts and we all take the short way round from time to time, but that's... Continue »

How Movies Helped Save My Soul: Finding Spiritual Fingerprints in Culturally Significant Films

How Movies Helped Save My Soul: Finding Spiritual Fingerprints in Culturally Significant Films Cover

Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

At its best, film can transport you to what C.S. Lewis called a "thin place," where the line between harsh reality and the transcendent is so subtly blurred that for a moment, you find it difficult to tell the difference. Film, in the final analysis, can do for you what all great art does--irritate and heal, challenge and affirm, inspire and sadden. "How Movies Help Save My Soul explores the profound possibilities of movies to guide, critique and provoke the postmodern Christian journey. The book examines more than 50 films to see beyond simple multiplex fodder to encounter something transcendent in film.

Commenting on the title "How Movies Have Helped Save My Soul" I want to say I have recently viewed "Faith Like Potatoes" about Angus Bechen, a Scottish farmer living in South Africa. Because of his simple yet powerful faith he has impacted me to the point of shaking my soul to listen intently to Jesus and what he wants rather than what I want. For 30 years I have been waiting on other people and/or events. But now I am on the verge of something important to God and I dare not look to man any longer. Like Clint Eastwood in "Gran Torino" I am motivated from within my soul which I have surrendered to God.
