The crime was called in by Rina Lazarus, and Decker is relieved to discover that she is a calm and intelligent witness. She is also the only one in the sheltered community willing to speak of this unspeakable violation. As Rina tries to steer Decker through the maze of religious laws the two grow closer. But before they get to the bottom of this horrendous crime, revelations come to light that are so shocking that they threaten to come between the hard-nosed cop and the deeply religious woman with whom he has become irrevocably linked.

About the Author

Faye Kellerman introduced L.A. cop Peter Decker and his wife, Rina Lazarus, to the mystery world nineteen years ago. Since then she has published fifteen Decker/Lazarus novels, including the New York Times bestsellers Street Dreams, The Forgotten, and Stalker. She is also the author of Moon Music, a contemporary thriller set in Las Vegas; The Quality of Mercy, an historical novel of Elizabethan England; and Double Homicide, co-authored with her husband, Jonathan Kellerman. Her latest novel is Straight Into Darkness, an historical mystery set in Germany during the rise of Adolph Hitler and National Socialism. Ms. Kellerman lives in California with her husband, their four children, three dogs, and fish too numerous to count.

This is the first in an engrossing series, based on detective Pete Decker and his Orthodox wife, Rina Lazarus. This book, in addition to a spellbinding criminal case, introduces us to the characters, explaining how they met and how they overcame some seemingly insurmountable obstacles to their love. I highly advise you to start with this book and then I know you will go on to read the rest, as Pete and Rina get on with their lives and how they solve some rather unique crimes. Faye is one of my favorite authors, can you tell?

This is the first book in the series. It is good to read this one first as you learn how Peter and Rina meet and get a good understanding of the part the Jewish faith plays in these mysteries.
