Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

For decades, Press argues, conservatives have defined religion so narrowly that Democrats and liberals have been pushed outside the fold. According to their narrow gospel, God put George W. Bush in the White House to deal with gays, guns, and abortion—and those who don’t agree are on the sure road to hell. How the Republicans Stole Religion is Press’s fervent call for the left to reclaim religion and return it to its basic principles of social justice, charity, and tolerance.

Review:

“The movement toward a theocratic America has a new obstacle: Bill Press’s articulate defense of real religious freedom and condemnation of pious dogma which marginalizes the rights and values of women, gay and lesbian Americans, religious minorities, and free thinkers.”

—The Rev. Barry Lynn, Executive Director, Americans United for Separation of Church and State

“God bless Bill Press. This former seminarian and former California Democratic Party chair has the courage, theological training, and moral clarity needed to point out both the deep spiritual values of the left and the hypocrisy of some on the far right. Hallelujah, Brother Bill!”

—Paul Begala, Cohost, CNN’s The Situation Room

“Bill Press writes the way he talks: with wit, spiritual conviction and political passion.”

—Lydia Howell, Pulse of the Twin Cities

It figures a Tobey Keith fan would not like the TRUTH! I mean Bill has done a service to this country I feel, and it's about time that someone had the courage and smarts to write a book like (Bill) has! I plan to share this book with not only my liberal friends, but my lost conseritive friends too! Jesus gave us free will, but it seems the Republicans just can't deal with that, it interferes with their views.... Oh and as far as the comment of anyone liking this being stupid????? You suppourt Bush! Enough said!!!!

Bill Press is full of BS! He picks and chooses scriptures himself! He defends the democrats morals??? (they don't have any!) Ted Kennedy, Bill Clinton, you can't use the word moral in the same sentence as those two. yeah, it's wrong to kill a killer, or baby rapist, but you can abort all the fetuses you want because it's a woman's right to choose. Those who believe in abortion have never had one. It's bad enough that one would require an abortion because of a rape or a life threatening disease that would kill mother and baby,But the majority of abortions are performed for nothing more than birth control. (In my experiences with friends, etc.) It's nice that he expresses his opinion, but it is just that, his opinion. He isn't 100 % correct either, although he thinks he is, and everyone else who disagrees with him is stupid!
