The Bourne Identity

by Robert Ludlum

The Bourne Identity Cover

Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Jason Bourne.

He has no past. And he may have no future. His memory is blank. He only knows that he was flushed out of the Mediterranean Sea, his body riddled with bullets.

There are a few clues. A frame of microfilm surgically implanted beneath the flesh of his hip. Evidence that plastic surgery has altered his face. Strange things that he says in his delirium — maybe code words. Initial: "J.B." And a number on the film negative that leads to a Swiss bank account, a fortune of four million dollars, and, at last, a name: Jason Bourne.

But now he is marked for death, caught in a maddening puzzle, racing for survival through the deep layers of his buried past into a bizarre world of murderous conspirators — led by Carlos, the world's most dangerous assassin. And no one can help Jason Bourne but the woman who once wanted to escape him.

Synopsis:

Robert Ludlum's most famous character comes to life in this exciting program performed by Darren McGavin.

He is a man with an unknown past and an uncertain future. A man dragged from the sea riddled with bullets, his face altered by plastic surgery — a man bearing the dubious identity of Jason Bourne.

Now he is running for his life, the target of professional assassins, at the center of a maddening, deadly puzzle. Who is Jason Bourne? To answer that question, he must find the secret buried deep in his own past. And the only one who can help him is a beautiful stranger — the woman who once would do anything to escape him.

The writing style is pretty good, but he does repeat things to make an attitude. He likes to end chapters with short, effect-producing lines, and this gets old after a while. However I love the character that he creates in Bourne. A stand-up man who I could fall in love with. What is really great is that unlike most spy/action/mystery type books is that Marie is not a simpering idiot who cant stand up for herself. She is actually smart, and well-educated and helps the main character quite a bit. It was also mind boggling the kind of betrayl going on through out the novel, twists and turns of all sorts. Over all a great book that keeps you reading more. I wish the movie stayed true to it.
