Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Night — A terrifying account of the Nazi death camp horror that turns a young Jewish boy into an agonized witness to the death of his family...the death of his innocence...and the death of his God. Penetrating and powerful, as personal as The Diary Of Anne Frank, Night awakens the shocking memory of evil at its absolute and carries with it the unforgettable message that this horror must never be allowed to happen again.

Review:

"A slim volume of terrifying power." New York Times

Review:

"What I maintain is that this personal record, coming after so many others and describing an outrage about which we might imagine we already know all that it is possible to know, is nevertheless different, distinct, unique....Have we ever thought about the consequence of a horror that, though less apparent, less striking than the other outrages, is yet the worst of all to those of us who have faith: the death of God in the soul of a child who suddenly discovers absolute evil?" Francios Mauriac

Review:

"Wiesel has taken his own anguish and imaginatively metamorphosed it into art." Curt Leviant, Saturday Review

Review:

"The book that always makes me weep is 'Night' by Elie Wiesel, because it brings up emotions of sorrow, horror and anger. And the book that unfailingly cheers me up is also 'Night' by Elie Wiesel, because it shows me that there is never an excuse for not trying to overcome evil, and that there is no situation from which we cannot emerge with a determination to be productive." Alan M. Dershowitz, Washington Post Book World

Review:

"To the best of my knowledge no one has left behind him so moving a record." Alfred Kazin

Review:

"As a human document, 'Night' is almost unbearably painful, and certainly beyond criticism." A. Alvarez, Commentary

Review:

"The seminal story of a child the Germans intended to murder, more to the point than the partial narrative of 'The Diary of Anne Frank' since it describes the place of Anne Frank's doom." Cynthia Ozick, New York Times Book Review

"Night" by Elie Wiesel is a intense and griping tale written in first person, by a victim and eyewitness of the atrocities of the Nazi death camps. This book was chosen by my college as a school wide project in 2008-2009 to broaden student awareness and knowledge of a true event or person. I cried many tears and applauded while reading this short and compelling tale. As the story ends, Mr. Wiesel will not let you stop feeling his tale of courage and terror. All readers will benefit from reading this book, if not for the knowledge, but for the wonderful way he keeps you bound. Read this book! I would also recommend the other two books in the series, "Dawn" and "Day". I could write a 100 great terms papers with this wonderful book!

Night is an autobiography of Elie Wiesel and what he went through in the days of the World War when Jews were held in German Nazi Concentration Camp. The fight he had to keep against his prosecutor and the hardest fight of all - against himself, and finally his survival.

Night is a book that will make you question the morality of humankind, the meaning of life and death, the price to live and the value of life - or lack of it. Night truly evoked innumerable emotions from me as a reader as I felt his words compute little by little images of what he went through. Feeling it is extremely easy compared to embracing it. Night is definitely a strong book that will make you treasure your life. And most importantly, Night is a reminder of what we have to keep up with - Peace and absolute zero tolerance to violence and discrimination.

Night by Elie Wiesel will open your eyes and let you into a new dimension. An eye opener to the fullest.
