Publisher Comments:

Pop culture, chaos theory and matters of the heart collide in this unique novella from the Hugo and Nebula winning author of Doomsday Book.

Sandra Foster studies fads and their meanings for the HiTek corporation. Bennet O'Reilly works with monkey group behavior and chaos theory for the same

company.   When the two are thrust together due to a misdelivered package and a run of seemingly bad luck, they find a joint project in a flock of sheep. But a                                                                         series of setbacks and disappointments arise before they are able to find answers to their questions.

Synopsis:

This New York Times Notable Book features twelve extraordinary tales, including:
-- The Nebula Award-winning A Letter from the Cleary's, a poignant tale set in the wake of the nuclear holocaust.
-- The Hugo and Nebula finalist The Sidon in the Mirror, which explores the razor's edge of madness.
-- Blue Moon, a madcap story of corporate shenanigans and true love.
- My Darling Daughters, a potent drama of abuse and morality.

Connie Willis ventures into what real world scientific research can be like and how readily it can be stymied by the chaos found in organizations. Her sense of humor in depicting one scientist's search for the origins and mechanisms of fads is both razor sharp and on occasion slapstick -- in other words, a realistic depiction of the many unexpected pitfalls scientists must watch out for. This is a delightful tale told with Willis' typical insight, precise prose, and her ability to make the reader feel like a co-conspirator with the protagonist within the first 20 pages.

A smart read about the curious world of fads, and love and of course sheep. Everything is better with sheep.

Is is science, science fiction, romance, mystery, or a history lesson about fads?
Yes.
Connie Willis takes the reader through an amazing adventure with her wry sense of humor as the guide. If I had to pin this book down, I'd say it was a fairy tale about the scientific method.
