Publisher Comments:

The 1993 Booker Prize winner. Paddy Clarke, a ten-year-old Dubliner, describes his world, a place full of warmth, cruelty, love, sardines and slaps across the face. He's confused; he sees everything but he understands less and less.

This was a hard book, a hard book to understand. You couldn't be sure of what to accept from a kid. this book has a few jokes, but there seems to be no twist or turn what so ever. I mean there is no problem really outlined, until the last 35 pages of the book...it was hard to just go on, but it was just like a marathon run you just had to complete it...
It was an approach by Doyle to tell his story by a child's point of view because he realized that a child has the purest eye, as it is a Gods weapon in some way...we see that in the book children have a pattern on denying the validity of truth but not lying...
The character of Sinbad seemed the most ideal until to the part when he says, "the devil tempts me." this part was funny but at the same time annoying for a patient child like him to say such a thing...
I guess the book isn't so bad after all...its worth reading atleast the end covers up the loses of time...
This book tells us a simple basic story of a 10-year old child, the simple part was the break-up between the children but the extraordinary thing is what Doyle was trying to point out to us, the effect on the child...
