New York: The Century Co., 1900. Octavo, 14.5 x 21.5 cm, 294pp. 1st edition. Blue cloth over boards stamped in green and silver; top edge gilt. Inscribed and signed by Joshua Slocum on the front free endpaper, with additional signed correspondence between him and the previous owner pasted to both the front and rear paste-downs. Cloth rubbed and worn at extremities with some chipping at the spine ends, and with a frayed and torn area at the rear joint affecting the center of the spine. Spine shaken; hinges cracked; first gathering loosened and attached by just a few threads; one preliminary page detached. Tears and indentations from paperclips to the prelims; envelope containing a newspaper clipping pasted to the rear free endpaper; pages toned. Fair condition. djm
