Synopses & Reviews

Description:

Sometimes in Little Advantages it can be hard to tell what’s fact and what’s plausible fiction, and what’s great is that it’s not important to know. Often Paul Maziar gets us pleasantly lost in his ruminations that may begin on the horizon and end in ghosts, or as easily leave us with a doorman celebrating a completely surreal and commonplace evening in the mist, or may even re-introduce us to a melancholy Orpheus. There are “Saturday Nights” you can’t forget even if you wanted to, but of course those are the ones best remembered, as Paul well knows. These poems are universes with complete worlds and in their images the world is finally made strange again. Funny, insightful, and occasionally dark, Paul catches those seemingly normal and routine moments of social life and plants them squarely on the page in remarkable lights. The fold over cover is made with a painting by Will Bruno.
