These knitted and crocheted fashion accessories and decorative accents for the home vary in their required levels of skill, but all can be completed quickly and require only one skein of yarn. Several are designed using up a skein's worth of leftovers from other projects.

Synopsis:

These knitted and crocheted fashion accessories and decorative accents for the home vary in their required levels of skill, but all can be completed quickly and require only one skein of yarn. The stitch patterns and clear instructions make it easy for even procrastinators and the less-than-diligent to create a ruffled cravat, a drawstring bag, a tank top, cozy scarves, arm and leg warmers, lace wristlets, fingerless gloves, a mohair pillow, and even a sweater for a baby. Several projects do not require any new yarn at all—instead projects such as the Felted Striped Tote or the Labyrinth Circle Rug are designed using up a skein's worth of leftovers from other projects. A guide to terms and techniques, a resource directory, and a bibliography are also included.

I have knit only one pattern in this book. The name and description is a misnomer. Most of the patterns in this book take more than one skein of yarn.

I purchased this book in hopes of finding patterns to use up all those extra single skeins that I have cluttering my stash, but this book did not meet those needs.

Cute projects, but the author uses really large skeins of yarn for a few patterns that I can't seem to find. Great resource to use up your stash or scrap yarns.

If your life is anything like mine these days, a one skein project is about all you can imagine completing. That's where Leigh Radford's little gem of a book comes in. Oneskein offers many fast and hip projects--well over a dozen that I plan to complete--for the knitter or crocheter with little extra time for projects but who just can't give up her needles and wool.

This isn't a book only for beginners. I'm an adept knitter and would be bored with endless stockinette, but this book includes interesting colors and textures. And like all Interweave Press books, Oneskein is beautifully photographed.

For the beginner (or forgetful non-beginner), Radford includes clear instructions for each special techinque in the back of the book.

I would have given this book a 4.5 if it were possible; I have only one small complaint. I realize it may increase sales and broaden appeal, but not all knitters are crocheters and vice versa, and I wish publishers wouldn't pretend we are. I prefer knitting to crocheting, and wouldn't buy a crochet pattern unless forced to in a combination book like this. While only a relatively small percentage of the patterns are crochet, they are still wasted on me. But that's just a small annoyance--overall this book is superb.
