Description:

London: Richard Grafton, 1542.

Octavo, 135x100mm. [xx], 345, 12. (*-**8, ***4; a-X8, Y5).

First English edition. Translated by Nicholas Udall.

Bound in old panelled calf. All edges stained red. Engraved device to the title page as well as to the colophon. Engraved initials. Gothic type.

Lacking leaf z1. This is a short copy along the top and fore-edges, with a few headlines shaved and quite a few of the side-notes shaved. The title page has numerous old ink notations and names, and there is an old name on the colophon as well. Wax residue and stain to the verso of n7 and the recto of n8. Minor dampstaining and foxing throughout.

The boards are a little worn, especially along the extremities. Joints and spine rubbed; both joints are cracked near the head, and a there is a large chip from the head of the spine. Good condition.

Pollard, 10443. OCLC: 54311254.
