Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Extolled for decades as one of the most influential Christians of his day, C. S. Lewis has stirred millions of readers through his probing insights, passionate arguments, and provocative questions about God, love, life, and death. C. S. Lewis: Readings for Meditation and Reflection gathers daily readings from his most famous published works—The Screwtape Letters, Mere Christianity, The Four Loves—as well as his lesser-known writings, letters, and essays. This collection of readings covers a wide range of topics from spirituality, to materialism and sexuality, as relevant and compelling today as when they were written.

Synopsis:

Known throughout the world as the intellect behind The Chronicles of Narnia and as the twentieth century's most influential Christian writer, C. S. Lewis has stirred millions of readers through his probing insights, passionate arguments, and provocative questions about God, love, life, and death. Gathered from the mass of his published works — including The Screwtape Letters, Mere Christianity, The Four Loves, and God in the Dock — as well as from letters, essays, and less familiar writings, this compendium contains a cross section of Lewis's finest work.

Synopsis:

But Still — for intellectual honor has sunk very low in our age — I hear someone whimpering on with his question, "Will it help me? Will it make me happy? Do you really think I'd be better if I became a Christian?" Well, if you must have it, my answer is "Yes."

About the Author

Clive Staples Lewis, was born in Belfast, Ireland, in 1898. As a child, he was fascinated by the fairy tales, myths, and ancient legends recounted to him by his Irish nurse. The image of a faun carrying parcels and an umbrella in a snowy wood came to him when he was sixteen. Many years later, the faun was joined by an evil queen and a magnificient lion. Their story became The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe. Six further Chronicles of Narnia followed, and the final title, The Last Battle, was awarded the United Kingdom's prestigious Carnegie Award.
