With great skill and style, Hawke has created a book that serves a number of readers well. Obviously, students, history majors, teachers and professors will be able to glean a huge amount of information from ELEA.

But for a much larger audience--those simply interested in colonial America or simply want a quiet, soothing read that's perfect for a night by the fireplace with a cup of tea and a cat on your lap. Entertaining as well as informative, Hawke's style makes this very useful book an extremely enjoyable read. In a world where TV's the size of tennis courts bleat out flash, crash and junior high bathroom sexual humor, this book is respite.

ELEA by Hawke is food for the brain. Whether you're a student stuffing himself for an exam or just a thoughtful, discriminating fan of nonfiction looking for a wee snack, this book is terrific. Enjoy,
