Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Delivering a voice of inspiration that transcends the AIDS epidemic, this emotionally wrenching novel speaks to everyone who has ever given or received the gift of compassion. A volunteer health-care worker delivers small gifts of daily life--a sponge bath, a hot meal--and gains in return an opportunity to watch and to witness, to mourn and to remember.

Synopsis:

An emotionally wrenching work of fiction about a health-care worker who tenders compassion and love to victims of AIDS, by an author who "strips her language of convention to lay bare the ferocious rituals of love and need."--New York Times Book Review

The gauze of sheer humanity in which Rebecca Brown wraps her readers is far more than poignancy: each of the characters in these short fictions becomes achingly palpable. For anyone who has provided care for the terminally ill; any of us who has suffered loss to disease; and everyone prepared for a massage of the heart while holding finely-wrought tales of mortality, this book is essential reading.
