About the Author

Alan Epstein holds a Ph.D. in European history from New York University. A successful author and speaker on Italian life and culture, he also offers corporate and private escorted tours, special events, and retreats in Rome and other parts of Italy. He has reported on Italian life for America Online and is a regular Europe correspondent for American radio. He has appeared on Oprah and numerous other television shows. He lives with his wife and two sons in the heart of Rome.

Alan Epstein is passionate about Rome, and he shares that passion with his readers. Together with his wife and two sons he moves from California to Rome, and his day-to-day experiences are reflected in this delightful book. Come along with him on his Sunday morning jog, to a function at his sons' school, join them at dinner with friends. Each chapter is a story in itself and an absolute delight to read. Pick up this book and you are, truly, living in Rome and doing as the Romans do.

Ever dreamt of packing up and moving your family to a new country and a new life? Epstein and his wife do just that when they move their young family to Rome. The chapters function as short stories or observations on the experience of being an American living in Italy. The anecdotes range from charming to infuriating. The book is a sweet look at the challenges and payoffs of living as Romans do.
