About the Author

Abraham J. Heschel (1907-1972), born in Poland, moved to the United States in 1940. A professor at the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York, Heschel became an active and well-known participant in the Civil Rights movement and the protests against the Vietnam War.

Abraham Heschel's study of the Hebrew Bible's Prophets is a must have for Bible study groups. You will gain a deeper understanding and appreciation for the Prophetic books thanks to Heschel's insights. This is a theological and philosophical tour de force!

SInce 1962 many Jews and Christians, clergy and laymen alike, have gained new insights into the prophetic experience in general, and the pathos and challenges of the major Biblical prophets in particular, by reading Rabbi Abraham J. Heschel's "The Prophets".
As readers of Professor Heschel's other works [The Sabbath: Its Meaning to Modern Man, Between God and Man: An Interpretation of Judaism, God in Search of Man: A Philosophy of Judaism, etc. ] know his poetic prose enhances comprehension and retention.
