from a life of living the Tao, I have found this to be the best translation. Lao Tzu embodies simplicity in life and writing, Stephen Mitchell keeps to this poetic simplicity which truly allows your mind to grasp the Tao that can not be told. As Buddha teaches "I want to meet the man that understands the idea and lets go of the words for he is truly wise"
