Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

In this lyrical, absorbing, award-winning novel, nothing is as it seems, and every clue leads to more questions.

At age eleven, Taylor Markham was abandoned by her mother. At fourteen, she ran away from boarding school, only to be tracked down and brought back by a mysterious stranger. Now seventeen, Taylor's the reluctant leader of her school's underground community, whose annual territory war with the Townies and visiting Cadets has just begun. This year, though, the Cadets are led by Jonah Griggs, and Taylor can't avoid his intense gaze for long. To make matters worse, Hannah, the one adult Taylor trusts, has disappeared. But if Taylor can piece together the clues Hannah left behind, the truth she uncovers might not just settle her past, but also change her future.

This absorbing, award-winning novel is part love story, part family drama, and part coming-of-age story in one compelling tale. If Taylor Markham can put together the pieces of her past and present, she might just be able to change her future.

"Jellicoe Road" can be resumed in: wonderful story, beautiful words. While very confusing at first, this book had SO MUCH HEART, I think that's why I loved it so much, there are different stories from the past and present being described through the course of the book, they all come together as one little by little and in the end you have just one story, a fantastic and very layered one. Each one of those stories was heartbreaking in it's own way, each one had soul. It was fun putting the pieces together and finding out what was happening along with Taylor, our narrator.

"Jellicoe Road" made me cry a lot and it also made me want to jump inside the book and hug some of the characters. A lot of them were broken but they still felt completely alive (maybe that's why the felt so alive). My thoughts and feelings are all over the place when it comes to this book, but what I'm trying to say is that this book is fantastic in every way, it's very easy to start reading and lose yourself in it. The best part about it's the soul of the story, it's as beautiful as it it's sad.
