Yes, this was the inspiration for the 1987 movie Hellraiser that went on to spawn seven sequels. It was originally published in a short story anthology and later issued in novella format after the success of the the film. Hellbound Heart is a brisk walk into a visceral world of pain, pleasure, and fear. With Barker at the helm, no one is safe.  In some respects the horrors in this book are more disturbing than their celluloid counterparts. See why the Cenobites in all their repulsive glamor will haunt your nightmares well after you've finished the last sentence.

Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

From his Books of Blood to The Damnation Game, Weaveworld, and The Great and Secret Show, to scores of short stories, bestselling novels, and now major motion pictures, no one comes close to the vivid imagination and unique terrors provided by Clive Barker.

The Hellbound Heart is one of his best, a nerve-shattering novella about the human heart and all the great terrors and ecstasies within its endless domain. It is about greed and love, lovelessness and despair, desire and death, life and captivity, bells and blood. It is one of the most dead-frightening stories you are likely to ever read.

Synopsis:

Basis for the horror film Hellraiser, this novella is a nerve-shattering tale about the human heart and all the great terrors and ecstasies within its endless domain. "Barker's the best thing to happen to horror fiction for many moons. . . ".--Chicago Tribune.

Synopsis:

Frank Cotton's insatiable appetite for the dark pleasures of pain led him to the puzzle of Lemarchand's box, and from there, to a death only a sick-minded soul could invent. But his brother's love-crazed wife, Julia, has discovered a way to bring Frank back—though the price will be bloody and terrible . . . and there will certainly be hell to pay.

Barker adapted this short novel for his film "Hellraiser." Pinhead gives it two flesh-rending, gleaming metal hooks up.
