Before I Fallby Lauren Oliver
Synopses & Reviews
With this stunning debut novel, New York Times bestselling author Lauren Oliver emerged as one of today's foremost authors of young adult fiction. Like Jay Asher's Thirteen Reasons Why and Gayle Forman's If I Stay, Before I Fall raises thought-provoking questions about love, death, and how one person's life can affect so many others.
For popular high school senior Samantha Kingston, February 12—"Cupid Day"—should be one big party, a day of valentines and roses and the privileges that come with being at the top of the social pyramid. And it is…until she dies in a terrible accident that night.
However, she still wakes up the next morning. In fact, Sam lives the last day of her life seven times, until she realizes that by making even the slightest changes, she may hold more power than she ever imagined.
Named to numerous state reading lists, this novel was also recognized as a Best Book of the Year by Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, The Daily Beast, NPR, and Publishers Weekly. It has been optioned for film by Fox 2000 Pictures.
Supports the Common Core State Standards.
The love story of Jenny and Billy continues in this captivating sequel to the acclaimed paranormal young adult novel A Certain Slant of Light.
“Life proves as haunting as death in this well-crafted ghost story.”—Kirkus Reviews
Helen needed a body to be with her beloved. Jenny had to escape from hers before her spirit was broken. It was wicked, borrowing it, but love drives even the gentlest soul to desperate acts.
And Helen, who has returned to help Jenny, finds herself trapped, haunting the girl she wished to save. Jenny and Billy's love story begins out-of-body and continues into the tumultuous realm of the living, where they are torn apart just as they begin to remember falling in love.
Whyd I do it? I suppose its the only question that really matters.
Seventeen-year-old Crow will stop at nothing to protect her younger sister—even if it costs her her own life. But then shes given a chance to come back and make things right. There are a few catches, though. First, she wont come back as herself. And before she can set things straight, shell have to figure out whats what—and things arent exactly as clear-cut as she remembered.
Powerful and hard-hitting, this is a compelling story about what it means to live your life—for your own sake—from an award-winning author.
