Publisher Comments:

This mesmerizing, surreal account of the bizarre adventures of Terence McKenna, his brother Dennis, and a small band of their friends, is a wild ride of exotic experience and scientific inquiry. Exploring the Amazon Basin in search of mythical shamanic hallucinogens, they encounter a host of unusual characters — including a mushroom, a flying saucer, pirate Mantids from outer space, an appearance by James and Nora Joyce in the guise of poultry, and translinguistic matter — and discover the missing link in the development of human consciousness and language.

This is the best anti-serum to Carl Jung's Red Book! McKenna takes you on the adventure of mind-altering plants that deliver you to the same consciousness that Jung so desperately tried to draw down in his Red Book! Sad really, to realize how steeped in his own beliefs Jung actually was..... so much unrequited searching!

Some day the future race of humans (should we survive) will hopefully have access to the writings of Terence McKenna's. So few have gone so far into that 'other world' discovered (in part) through the use of psychotomimetic and psychedelic chemical compounds. Building upon and expanding immensely the "doors of perception" concept that originated with Blake and was popularized by Huxley, McKenna examines the tryptophans in particular and the true glimpses into the unknown that they can offer. If you have ever wondered about the existence of a separate plane of reality, and/or are curious about recent scientific experimentation with psychoactive hallucinogens, do not miss this amazing individual and his valuable contributions to an obscure yet vital field of knowledge. This review applies to both "True Hallucinations" and "The Archaic Revival." There exists an out-of-print edition that contains both of these seminal works in one volume.
