Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

This powerful work from the acclaimed Jungian analyst and bestselling author of He, She, and We explores our need to "own" our own shadow — the term Jung used to describe the dark, unlit part of our ego. In this rich work, Robert Johnson guides us through an exploration of the shadow: what it is, how it originates, and how it interacts and is made through the process of acculturation.

Johnson asserts that until we have undertaken the task of accepting and honoring the shadow within us, we cannot be balanced or whole, for what is hidden never goes away, but merely — and often painfully — turns up in unexpected places.

Review:

"[T]he author reveals how experience of romantic love may lead to awareness of both positive and negative aspects of the shadow....[C]learly written, thought-provoking..." Library Journal

Owning Your Own Shadow is a must read for anyone that is on the path to discovering their true self! It is a bridge to the thoughts of your subconcious that may never appear otherwise. The book provokes you to really try to understand the underbelly of your personality. It has been one of the most important books to come my way in a long time.
