Only their teacher, never theircompanion, I stayed apart from the human rites, and lovemaking and feasts.Besides, no one ever sees a Faerie unless the Goddess kissed their mother'seyelids at the moment of their conception, or Fey salve was put on theireyes. My Experience with the Faerie Tradition, in This Lifetime The college Iattended had two campuses, separated by a forest. I oftenhad to walk through those woods at night, and the path was not lit. I wasterrified. I believed Faerie Folk lived in the woods, so I would run asquickly as I could, thinking they wanted to abduct me, and treat me cruelly. Little did I know that the Fey Folk are a kind race, and that I was a witchwith Fey blood in my veins. The Faeries in those woods must have been callingme, and I feared the call because I knew no better. But later I completeda rigorous and rare seven-year training with Victor Anderson, to becomea Celtic shaman, by being adopted into Victor's family, which had kept Celticshamanism--also called Faerie Tradition--intact. Faerie Tradition is a Wiccanbranch specifically devoted to deep inner transformation, and it forms thebasis of this book. By the way, since most folks do not know who Victor Anderson is: he is anexpert on Celtic and Hawaiian shamanism, who has rather quietly trainedsome of the most seminally influential practitioners of the Goddess movement.If asked what qualifies him to do this, Victor might point out that studyingshamanism doesn't earn one a college degree.
