Blanche White lends a refreshing African-American, female twist to the mystery tradition, as she turns from domestic worker to insightful--if reluctant--sleuth. This first book in the series is about Blanche White, an African-American domestic worker - "plump, feisty, funny, feminist"- who turns into a rather sly sleuth. After writing one too many bad checks, she finds herself on the run from the authorities. Blanche becomes a housekeeper in an upscale community. When a murder occurs in the wealthy estate where Blanche works, she becomes the prime suspect. Blanche's irreverent sense of humor makes this novel a delightful quirky comedy and mystery that I must recommend. If you too have a quirky sense of humor, you won't be disappointed!
